Nerd Alert

My friend (read soul sister) Lauren and I leave for New York in seven sleeps. We spoke this morning and I think Lauren summed it up perfectly, “excited and scared.” We really are doing  New York on a budget and I have been googling free events etcetera. We talked about what we might like to do and thankfully, we are both on the same page. We want to soak in the atmosphere of New York. Just bathe in it all. Drown in it even.

Lauren is a photographer. I am a writer.

Central Park in summer, watching people, soaking in New York, and writing.

Could there be much better?

We are going to see Dispatch on our fist Saturday at Madison Square Garden. I have only just started listening to them, and appreciate their ethic as performers and people. We are really going to see John Butler Trio though. One of my FAVOURITE bands and the first time I will be seeing them without my birth sister. We have been going together to see them for over twenty years. Along with Pearl Jam and another Australian band, Something For Kate … our three favourites.

But Madison Square Garden. An Australian band. One of my favourites.

Had to get tickets.

And then, this is where the nerd bit comes in, I was reading about the release of Harper Lee’s ‘new’ novel, Go Set A Watchman this morning online. To Kill A Mockingbird is one of my all time favourite books. And I mean one of my all time favourite books, right up there with Wuthering Heights and Jodi Picoult and Paulo Coelho. My Year 10 class are actually studying it with me this term (well, when I return; they will be researching the contextual elements whilst I am away).

And then I realised that the ‘new’ book is released while I am in New York.

And then I found an event.

Mary Badham (the actress who played Scout in the movie with Gregory Peck) reading from To Kill A Mockingbird and from Go Set A Watchman on the day that it is released. In New York City. At the Kaufmann Concert Hall on Lexington.

And I just bought MY ticket.

And I can NOT contain my excitement.

As my class starts their work on the research I will be listening to Scout read.

I just want to swear so loudly, like a dog humping to release excitement, HOLY M*&^%$ F%$#&^!!! WOOOOOO HOOOOO!!!

Start spreading the news

I’m leaving next week

I’m going to be a part of it

New York New York

No I’m  not a song writer lol.

Even if it ain’t all it seems, I got a pocket full of dreams, Baby I’m going to New York,

Concrete jungle where dreams are made of,

There’s nothing you can’t do

When you’re in New York!!!

Gotta love poetic license ;-p.
